Architecture Competition 2024
Town hall, area approx. 4200 br-m²
Competition organizer: City of Kurikka
Team: Aino Born, architect
(aino born architecture)
My competition entry “Rintakylä ja Larvamaa” aims to preserve the space of the center of
Kurikka and the event use of the square, while its placement in accordance with the local plan
condenses the street space and supports pedestrian orientation. The L-shaped building masses
create an inner courtyard that brings in natural light and offers a protected meeting place. The
building’s terracotta-colored exterior, clad with roof tiles, blends harmoniously with the environment, creating a timeless but modern look. Wooden structures and ecological materials guarantee durability, good indoor air and flexibility of transformation, also taking into account the
entire life cycle of the building.
Although the entry did not win an award, the jury praised its originality and friendliness, which
were not factors that led to the project being considered for the next round this time.
