I worked as a project architect on the project in 2018-2019 and 2021-2022. My role included the project management as well as detailed drawing packages from each planning stage. Building permit process delayed the project and I was also creating presentations for neighborhood information sessions.
The new building replaced the Sillanpirtti housing unit, built in 1970 and which had been vacant for a long time. The new apartments were intended for people recovering from substance abuse, and the residents and staff work together to take care of everyday life and the wellbeing of the community. The two-storey building has 31 studios and communal spaces, such as a teaching kitchen, sauna and club rooms. The building has a precast concrete frame, a basement and a fourth floor.
Construction work started in 2022, and the building was completed in 2023. Ultimately, the Niemikoti Foundation took over the unit instead of Suoja-Pirtti ry.
