Pihlajisto Primary School was designed by Osmo Lappo and was completed in 1978. The exterior of the building is typical of 1970s school architecture, which was governed by precise regulations and dimensions. Modular dimensions, standard solutions and prefabricated construction have significantly influenced the exterior of the school building. The main material of the facades is red brick. The goal of the renovation was to create safe and healthy spaces for 200 students.

The renovation project of Pihlajisto Primary School was suspended in 2020 because the impacts of regional construction on the project objectives were not known with sufficient accuracy.
